MARI SELVARAJ

Through ‘ pariyerum perumal’, first time filmmaker Mari Selvaraj attempts to take Thamil Cinema to his roots. His hometown is in Puliyankulam village in Thoothukudi district. His first victory is based upon his birth. Before his birth,he was looked at as a proponent of doom by his extended family. His mother fought against all such portentous voices and given birth to him. That was his first victory. In 32 Mari Selvaraj traces his love for cinema to the days he spent spent in his mother,Papa’s village, Puliyanghulam, Thoothukudi District. The people of that village is so passionate about cinema. Cinema was everything to them. In his opinion cinema was entertainment, politics, cinema was life. The young Mari would dance to cinema songs. He was the star in that village. The people would telling him to go and join the film, on the other hand they also knew that cinema was a distant dream, So he went to law college for his graduation. His craveness on movies he left the course and came to chennai. And he worked hard doing multiple jobs here and there and ended up with director Ram. Later Mari Selvaraj is an author and a filmmaker. He finally made his own film. Pariyerum Perumal, produced by Pa. Ranjith’s Neelam productions, will mark his directorial debut. Before that he directed three films with the director Ram – ‘Kattradhu Thamizh’, ‘ Thankameenkal an and ‘Taramani’ Actually his main goal is to become an actor, to dance in front of the camera. In between shooting schedules he met with his wife Divya. Along the way, he also began publishing stories in Ananda Vikatan, including the Marakkavey Ninaikiren series. When he felt he was ready, Mari took the plunge. Within six months of getting his script ready, he became a director and the film was shot in a hectic 47 days in the sweltering summer.
